Dr. Yusuf Hamied is a leader in the industry and in philanthropy, focusing primarily on education and healthcare. He is the non-executive chairman of Cipla, a global pharmaceutical company founded by his late father. Dr. Yusuf has led the campaign to develop the supply of necessary HIV/AIDS medicine to developing countries at an affordable cost. Cipla also provided medicine at an affordable cost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Yusuf Hamied donated a generous amount to his previous university, Cambridge University in 2020. The donation is to be used towards the chemistry department and establish the Hamied Scholars Programme.
