Vijay Goradia founded Vinmar International Ltd.,a global distribution company, in 1978. He also established Goradia Capital to invest in and acquire other businesses, which have recieved recognition for their success and philanthropy. Dr. Marie Goradia is an active community volunteer and is the co-founder of Pratham Houston Young Professionals. She has also served on the board for the Indo-American Charity Fund.
Vijay and Marie founded Pratham, an NGO to support education of children living in the slums of India. It has now grown to impact over 40 million children to date and currently benefitting over 5 million children a year in India. In addition, this model is now replicated in other parts of Asia, and many African and Latin American countries.
Vijay’s companies have received numerous recognitions including the E&Y Master Entrepreneur Award and the US Department of Commerce E Export Award. His family foundation has partnered with Sightlife USA to restore eyesight to those suffering from corneal blindness. Marie received a Master’s degree in biochemistry and a PhD in molecular biology from Bombay University. One of four women to be selected by the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) for their training school, Marie was later appointed as a research officer there. She did her postdoctoral studies at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and Columbia University in New York.
