Anna and Raj Asava

United States

Raj Asava worked in senior/executive ranks for several large companies and held the position of President at two start-up organizations, over the four decades of his corporate career in the United States. He retired as the Chief Strategy Officer of Perot Systems in 2010 and joined his wife Aradhana (Anna) Asava, who had left her 20-year career in the global IT industry in 2009 to engage in impactful philanthropy.

When the couple learned about hunger in their communities and that over 50 million people across the US are food challenged, they moved to action. In 2017, Anna and Raj founded HungerMitao, a grassroots movement focused on raising awareness about hunger in the U.S., improving community engagement, and channeling resources and contributions of the Indian American community in the fight against hunger. In less than 4 years since its launch, the HungerMitao movement has spread to multiple cities across the country and enabled over 35 million meals for the Feeding American network of Food Banks.

The couple remain committed to fighting food insecurity in USA. In the early part of the pandemic in 2020, Anna and Raj pledged $1 million to Feeding America. Anna also serves on the Board of North Texas Food Bank. Anna and Raj are full time volunteers, continuing to channel their time, resources and influence towards food insecurity in USA. They also support children’s advocacy, literacy, and mentoring the next generation.
