Tarun Basu is a veteran editor, media commentator.and policy analyst. Basu heads a think tank, the Society for Policy Studies (www.spsindia.in) that runs the South Asia Monitor (www.southasiamonitor.org), a resource and policy forum on South Asia and publishes a fortnightly policy journal, the India Review & Analysis.

He is a veteran media personality, having worked for both Indian and international media organizations, including as the India correspondent of Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) from 1980-87. He is the Founder-Director of the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), India’s only private and independent news agency and content provider on multimedia platforms, and was till 2015 its Chief Editor.

He has been intimately involved in Indian diaspora affairs from the eighties, run media platforms that linked the diaspora with India and has also conducted orientation programmes in India for young diaspora groups.

Tarun has travelled all over the world and has been a regular invitee on the Indian prime minister’s and president’s media delegations in visits to other countries. He has covered conflict situations in India and South Asia. In recent years he has participated in international conferences in China, Spain, Morocco and the South Asian neighbourhood.  He has visited China ten times, including with three Indian prime ministers.
