Wavel Ramkalawan is the President of Seychelles, assuming office in 2020. A former Anglican priest, he studied theology in Mauritius and the UK. Entering politics in the early 1990s, Ramkalawan became a leading opposition figure and led the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) party.
His 2020 election victory marked the end of over four decades of United Seychelles Party rule. As President, Ramkalawan focuses on economic reform, anti-corruption, and strengthening democratic institutions. His administration prioritizes sustainable tourism, public debt reduction, and improved healthcare and education.
