Vivian Balakrishnan

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Singapore

Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan is the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, a position he has held since October 2015. 

He has been a Member of Parliament for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC since 2001. Prior to his current role, Dr. Balakrishnan served in various ministerial positions, including Minister-in-charge of the Smart Nation Initiative, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, and Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports. 

His notable contributions include facilitating negotiations for the Paris Agreement on climate change and overseeing the largest consular operation during the COVID-19 pandemic to repatriate Singaporeans.  Before entering politics, Dr. Balakrishnan was a consultant ophthalmologist and served as the CEO of Singapore General Hospital​​​​​​​​.
