Venugopal Kalavacharla is the Deputy Director at the USDA’s Institute of Food Production and Sustainability as of 2024. With a background in agricultural sciences and plant genomics, Kalavacharla has dedicated his career to enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture. He has played a pivotal role in advancing USDA research initiatives focused on crop resilience, soil health, and sustainable farming practices, aimed at addressing the challenges posed by climate change. 

Known for his collaborative approach, he works closely with researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to develop innovative, science-based solutions for a sustainable food supply. His contributions are widely recognized for supporting both the sustainability of food systems and the livelihoods of agricultural communities across the United States.
