Varun Ghosh

Senator for Western Australia

Varun Ghosh is an Australian politician and barrister who made history as the first Indian-origin member of the Australian Senate.

He joined the Australian Labor Party at the age of 17 and has been actively involved in public service ever since. Ghosh graduated with degrees in law and arts from the University of Western Australia and earned a master’s degree in law from the University of Cambridge as a Frank Downing Scholar.

Before entering politics, Ghosh worked as a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers in Perth, as well as in legal firms in Perth and New York, and served as a consultant for the World Bank in Washington, DC.

In February 2024, he was appointed to the Senate, representing Western Australia, following the retirement of Senator Patrick Dodson. Indiaspora is proud to have Varun Ghosh in our Global Government List.
