Uzra Zeya is the Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights at the U.S. Department of State, since 2021. Concurrently, she serves as the U.S. Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues.
Prior to these roles, Zeya was the President and CEO of the Alliance for Peacebuilding. Zeya’s distinguished 27-year career in the U.S. Foreign Service includes serving as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires in Paris, and various roles in Syria, Egypt, Oman, Jamaica, and India. She also worked as Deputy Executive Secretary to Secretaries of State Rice and Clinton.
Fluent in Arabic, French, and Spanish, Zeya has been recognized with several awards, including the Presidential Rank Award and the French Legion of Honour. Indiaspora is proud to have Uzra Zeya in our Government Leaders List.
