Tariq Ahmad

Member of the House of Lords

Lord Tariq Ahmad is a British businessman and a member of the House of Lords. He served as Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Commonwealth, and the United Nations at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Born in Lambeth to Punjabi-speaking immigrant parents from Pakistan, Ahmad was educated at Rutlish School and began his career in 1991 with NatWest, later becoming Head of Marketing and Branding.

In 2004, he joined Sucden Financial as a Director of Marketing, Strategy, and Research. Active in community service, he was Vice-President of the British Muslim youth organization AMYA from 1999 to 2008 and served as a governor at Wimbledon Park Primary School.

A committed Conservative, Ahmad became a Councillor in 2002 and was Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party from 2008 to 2010. He is part of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and held leadership roles within its youth organization. In recognition of his contributions to British foreign policy and community integration, he was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honors.
