Deputy Associate Administrator Shashi Kumar also serves as the National Coordinator for Maritime Education and Training in the Maritime Administration within the Department of Transportation. He has four decades of experience within the maritime industry and has received numerous accolades for outstanding leadership including the U.S. Transportation Secretary’s Outstanding Achievement Gold Medal, and the Partnering for Excellence Award, the U.S. Maritime Service Distinguished Service Bronze Medal, and many others.
Previously, Shashi served three terms as the Interim Superintendent at the US Merchant Marine Academy. He has also held visiting professor appointments at the Indian Institute of Management, Memorial University, the World Maritime University, the Shanghai Maritime University, and the Pontifical Catholic University. He has published the 13 most recent editions of Annual US Merchant Marine and World Maritime Review for the US Naval proceedings.
Shashi earned a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Wales UK, a Master of Science from the Maine Maritime Academy, and Bachelor of Science from the Indian Maritime Academy.
