Shamila Batohi is the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) in South Africa, appointed in February 2019. She began her career as a junior prosecutor in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court in 1986, eventually becoming the Director of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal. Batohi also served as the first regional head of the Directorate of Special Operations and was a Senior Legal Advisor to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
She has focused on addressing high-profile corruption and apartheid-era crimes, highlighting structural and budgetary challenges within the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
