Ram Villivalam is a prominent political figure serving as a State Senator in Illinois since 2019, making history as the first Asian American and Indian American elected to the Illinois General Assembly. He currently chairs the Transportation Committee and holds positions on several other key committees, including Energy and Public Utilities, Healthcare Access and Availability, and Human Rights.
Before his election, Villivalam worked as a legislative coordinator for SEIU Healthcare, advocating for Medicaid protections and services for vulnerable populations.
