Dr. Rahul Gupta serves as the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). He has previously served under two governors as the West Virginia’s Health Commissioner. He served as the Chief Health Officer and led the state’s opioid crisis response efforts and launched a number of pioneering public health initiatives.
Rahul is a specialist in internal medicine and preventive medicine, and has served as academic faculty in Tennessee and Alabama prior to leading the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department in West Virginia. He is an adjunct professor in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership in the School of Public Health at West Virginia University and is visiting faculty and TH Chan Harvard School of Public Health.
Rahul was born in India and grew up in Maryland. He completed medical school at the University of Delhi at age 21, and did his residency at St. Joseph Hospital at Northwestern University. He earned a master’s degree in public health from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and a global master’s of business administration degree from the London School Of Business and Finance.
