Prahlad Sewdien serves as the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries in Suriname as of 2024. Since his appointment, he has been pivotal in implementing policies aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector, boosting local production, and promoting sustainable farming practices. 

Sewdien has focused on enhancing food security, improving the livestock industry, and increasing the productivity of Suriname’s fisheries. His leadership has seen efforts to modernize agricultural infrastructure and increase support for small-scale farmers.

Sewdien has also worked to open up new export markets for Surinamese agricultural products. His vision for the sector emphasizes innovation, sustainability, and economic growth, positioning agriculture as a key driver of Suriname’s economy.
