Niklaus-Samuel Gugger

Niklaus-Samuel “Nick” Gugger is an Indian-born Swiss politician currently serving as a member of the Swiss National Council for the Evangelical People’s Party since 2017. 

Born in Karnataka, India, he was adopted by a Swiss couple and raised in Switzerland. Gugger’s career in public service began in the City Council of Winterthur (2002-2014), followed by the Cantonal Council of Zürich (2014-2017). 

He made history as the first Indian-origin member of the Swiss Parliament. Gugger has been actively involved in social work and has received an honorary doctorate from the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in Odisha, India, for his contributions. 

His political focus includes foreign policy, intercultural management, and advocating for social justice and children’s welfare. Gugger also serves on the Foreign Policy Committee and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Indiaspora is proud to have Niklaus-Samuel Gugger in our Global Government List.
