Prior to being elected, Mayor Kavita worked as an attorney in large multinational law firms around the world, primarily focusing on banking and structured finance work.She currently serves on the boards of many nonprofits and is committed to philanthropy and community engagement.

Kavita has a BA and LLB from Delhi University, and an LLM from the Northwestern University School of Law.
