Leader of the Opposition, Former PM

Kamla Persad-Bissessar is a trailblazing Trinidadian politician of Indian origin who became the first female Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, serving from 2010 to 2015. 

A leader of the United National Congress (UNC), she began her political career as an alderman before becoming a Member of Parliament for Siparia in 1995. Persad-Bissessar held key positions, including Attorney General and Minister of Education. 

As Prime Minister, she focused on crime reduction, economic diversification, and social programs. Despite losing the 2015 general election, she continues to influence national politics, serving as Leader of the Opposition and maintaining a significant role in the UNC.
