Minister Koonjoo-Shah is the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare. Kalpana Devi was appointed on November 12, 2019. She has also been a Member of the Broadcasting Committee from 02 December 2019.

Her professional career comprises of various positions- working at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (Selly Oak) United Kingdom, BG Group Plc United Kingdom Production Chemistry SME, Aspen Global Incorporated Mauritius Pharmaceutical Affairs as a Consultant, Avacare Health International Mauritius as a Lead Regulatory Officer, Ministry of Health and Quality of Life Mauritius as an Assistant Permanent Secretary, and many more.

Kalpana Devi holds a Certificate in MPharm Pharmacy (Year 1 & 2 MPharm Pharmacy) from the University of Brighton, UK. She also has a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences (1st Class) and her thesis study/specialisation was in- Infectious Diseases in Developing Countries from the same university. She loves reading, freelance writing, travelling, swimming, and cooking. She is a keen advocate of most forms of physical exercise, avid fan of horse riding, rugby and cricket.
