Jyoti Gondek is the current Mayor of Calgary, having made history as the first woman to hold this position when she was elected in October 2021. Before becoming mayor, she served as a city councilor for Ward 3 from 2017 to 2021.
Throughout her career, Gondek has focused on economic recovery, climate crisis response, affordable housing, and enhancing women’s participation in the workforce. She has been involved in various community organizations and has played a key role in getting Punjabi recognized as a second language option in Calgary schools.
During her tenure as mayor, Gondek has navigated challenges such as police reform, downtown revitalization, and fostering relationships with provincial leaders.
