Iqbal Mohamed is an independent politician who was elected as the MP for Dewsbury and Batley in 2024, making history as the first independent MP from Yorkshire in over a century. Born and raised in Dewsbury, Mohamed has a background in engineering and IT consultancy. His campaign focused on issues such as the cost-of-living crisis, the state of the NHS, and particularly his strong pro-Palestine stance, which garnered significant support from his constituency’s large Muslim population.
