Atul Gawande is the lead global health development at the US Agency for International Development (USAID). His role includes efforts to prevent child and maternal deaths, curb the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and combat COVID-19 as well as other infectious diseases. He has previously served in government as a senior advisor in the Department of Health and Human Services under President Bill Clinton, and on President Biden’s transition advisory board for COVID-19.
Atul has previously written four New York Times best selling books and has embraced a career as an author. He has additionally been a professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He was a founder and chair of Araidne Labs, and of Lifebox, a nonprofit organization making surgery safer. Atul also co-founded CIC Health which operates COVID-19 testing and vaccination nationally.
Atul received his BA from Standford University, his MA from Oxford University, his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health.
