Ajay Kakkar

Lord Ajay Kakkar is a British surgeon and academic, currently serving as Emeritus Professor of Surgery at University College London (UCL). He has a distinguished career in medical research, focusing on thrombosis and its implications in cancer. After obtaining his medical degree from King’s College London, he earned a PhD from Imperial College London.

Created a Life Peer in 2010, Lord Kakkar sits on the cross benches of the House of Lords. He held significant roles, including Chairman of the House of Lords Appointments Commission and the Judicial Appointments Commission. In addition, he has chaired various organizations, including UCLPartners and The King’s Fund, and is involved with the UK Biobank and the Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research.
