It was a historic year for India as it held the G20 presidency, which provided an opportunity for it to influence global discourse and promote cooperation around several of the pressing issues of our times like climate change, terrorism and economic inequality, among others.
Believing this to be the most opportune moment to begin a dialogue around the Indian diaspora and its contributions, Indiaspora organized a three-day forum, the Indiaspora G20 Forum, which focused on discussions around a variety of tracks such as foreign policy, financial inclusion, climate change, gender, healthcare, and others.
The three-day program featured both plenary and breakout sessions, networking breaks and a cultural evening. The speakers were drawn from various fields and included government officials and policymakers, businesspersons and entrepreneurs, sportspersons, artists and activists. Panels of experts deliberated upon important issues not limited to the Indian diaspora.
Keynote speakers included the Honorable Eric Garcetti, U.S Ambassador to India, the Honorable T.V. Somanathan, Cabinet Secretary of India, famed entrepreuneur and philanthropist, Faizal Kottikollon, Climate Activist George Jacob among other esteemed speakers. Find the full agenda here
The invitees included Indiaspora members, government functionaries, philanthropists, students and anyone interested in understanding the multifaceted issues surrounding the present and future of the Indian diaspora, a community that is growing in influence and stature worldwide, and their consequent influence on India’s growth and development.
