Thank you to everyone who joined us for our felicitation of Aziz! It was a memorable night with an outpouring of kind words, funny stories, and gratitude for Aziz’s work in the Indian-American community.
Executive Editor of India Abroad, Aziz Haniffa has had a 35-year long career at America’s first, oldest, and most widely read newspaper for the diaspora community! While he formally served as its Editor, he informally served as “Chief Diplomatic and Political Correspondent,” strengthening U.S.-India ties, connecting the Indian diaspora, and advocating on our behalf.
A few of the many toasts and roasts included those from Congressman Ami Bera; Congressman Ro Khanna; Ambassador Rich Verma, former U.S. Ambassador to India; FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai; Judge Sri Srinivasan, Chief Justice of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit; Former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy; Nisha Biswal, President of U.S.-India Business Council; various community leaders, and Aziz’s colleagues and fellow journalists.
Thank you to our wonderful hosts for the evening, Sree Sreenivasan, Marshall R. Loeb Visiting Professor at the Stony Brook School of Journalism, Co-founder of the South Asian Journalists Association, and Sanjeev Joshipura, Executive Director at Indiaspora.
This event was held in partnership with the South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA).
