Sandeep joined Newcrest as senior executive director and COO in 2014 and was appointed CEO a few months later. Sandeep’s career in the mining and materials industry has taken him across the world. He began his career at Mount Isa Mines and later joined Western Mining, then Rio Tinto. Prior to joining Newcrest, Sandeep served as the CEO of Pacific Aluminium, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto. Sandeep completed his bachelor’s degree from the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Sandeep is a strong advocate for diversity in the company and has increased the number of minorities and women that work for Newcrest. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Newcrest has established a community support fund of $20 million (AUD) and also made monetary donations to UNICEF’s initiative to secure more PPE and ventilators for healthline workers in Papua New Guinea.
