Vice Chairman, SUN Group Shiv is Vice-Chairman of SUN Group, a 120-year-old family enterprise comprised of both operating and investment companies. SUN Group is active in Asset Management (Private Equity, Venture Capital, Real Estate), Natural Resources (Mining, Gold, Battery Metals), Green Infrastructure (Renewable Energy, Electric Mobility, EV Batteries), and High Technology (Aerospace, Communications, Electronics, Quantum and Artificial Intelligence). The group has been active in various regions around the world, including India, Latin America, West Africa, Ukraine, Russia, the Middle East, Central and South-East Asia, Japan, and China. In the technology space, SUN has been an early and growth stage investor since the mid-1990s and has helped create venture capital investment businesses such as Westbridge Capital, which later partnered with Sequoia to become Sequoia India. SUN Group is also an active investor in the energy technology, energy transition, quantum, and artificial intelligence space. SUN has partnered with Maini Group to establish SUN Mobility, an energy technology company focused on becoming a leader in EV energy infrastructure by utilizing a battery-as-a-service business model. More recently, SUN has made significant investments into ProLogium and Sandbox AQ. ProLogium is the leading energy innovation company focused on solid-state battery research, development, and manufacturing, providing next-generation battery solutions for electric vehicles in consumer markets and industrial applications. SandboxAQ led by Eric Schmidt and Jack Hidary, develops SaaS-based solutions for large enterprises, leveraging its platform at the nexus of quantum physics and AI. Sandbox AQ was created at Alphabet in 2017 and was spun off in 2021 as an independent company. Shiv is the Chairman of the Entrepreneurship Sports Generation, a global entrepreneurship ecosystem that has reached over 600,000 entrepreneurs and curated USD 500+ million in rewards. Shiv is also the Executive Chairman of the Global Education and Leadership Foundation (tGELF), a foundation that has reached over three million students worldwide and aims to create the next generation of ethical and altruistic leaders that tackles the world’s most pressing challenges. tGELF has partnered with Global Citizen to create Global Citizen India, which raised over USD 6 billion in commitments in support of the UN SDGs. Shiv was elected a “Global Leader for Tomorrow” (now Young Global Leader) by the World Economic Forum and was a member of the organization’s Global Agenda Council on Education. He has served on the Board of Overseers of the Wharton School for over two decades and is currently on the board of the Lauder Institute and the Center for the Advanced Study of India (CASI) at the University of Pennsylvania. Shiv has served on both Brown and Yale University’s President’s Councils on International Activities and the Asia Society Policy Institute’s Global Council. Shiv has also served as a board member for the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (Stanford PACS) and was an advisory board member of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University. Shiv is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors at Junior Achievement Worldwide and is a member of the Leadership Council at the Brookings Center for Universal Education. He is the Chairman of the Indian representation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Business Council and a member of the BRICS Business Council. Shiv is currently a founding member of V20, a global community of values experts and practitioners that engage with G20, and is the chairman of Aikido Aikikai Foundation of India. He also serves as a Trustee of the Foundation Leadership Council at United World College (South East Asia), and is a member of the Young Presidents Organisation’s Inter-Continental (YPO-IC) chapter. Shiv was awarded the Dr. Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award from Tufts University, the Outstanding Contribution to Education Prize and the India Alumni Award from the Wharton School of Business. Shiv studied at Eton College, earned a BA in Economics from Brown (‘85), an MBA/MA with distinction from the Wharton School of Business and the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania (‘90). He speaks seven languages including Russian and Portuguese. Shiv is married to Urvashi Rajya Laxmi Rana from Nepal and they have three daughters, Bhavani, Jayashree, and Gayatri.
